Travel-themed Northern Michigan wedding at The Homestead in Glen Arbor was the perfect way to celebrate the union of Megan Narasimhan and Steve Cherewick.

The new husband and wife are both graduate students at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, but their love story began when they met in their home state of Michigan in 2009. Since then, the couple has turned their shared love of hiking, trekking, and travel into a romance of global proportions—and their wedding at The Homestead in Glen Arbor was a celebration of both their love and the many adventures they’ve shared.

Having a “mini-destination wedding” Up North was an easy decision for Megan, whose family has a cottage on Torch Lake, and Steve, who also has family in Northern Michigan. Megan’s mother, who planned much of the wedding, discovered The Homestead, which the couple described as “idyllic” from the moment they saw it.

After riding chairlifts to the top of Bay Mountain for the ceremony—which Steve was especially excited about—the couple said their “I dos” overlooking the Lake Michigan horizon and surrounded by their large family and many close friends.

The couple incorporated a travel theme into their reception at The Homestead’s Camp Firefly. In lieu of table numbers, each of the dinner tables were labeled as a different country—one for each of the places Megan and Steve visited while backpacking together for seven months in South America and again through Southeast Asia. For wedding favors, each guest received a framed photo from their table’s country, taken by Megan and Steve. “We really wanted to bring our travel experiences into our wedding day,” says Megan.

The wedding party and their guests enjoyed a plated dinner of crispy mountain trout or potato gnocchi, catered by The Homestead, along with a selection of beers from Short’s Brewery in Bellaire. DJ Dustin Krcatovich kept the dance party going into the night, playing from the list of songs Megan and Steve had handpicked for the entire day. “We danced like crazy, because every song was our jam!” says Megan. “The whole day was just perfect. We were overjoyed.”
