Ben Wolfe has two very different passions in his life — cooking and fishing. The fishing boat captain and classically trained French chef found a way to combine those passions when he created Deep Blue Coffee Company.
“I have fished ever since I was three. It’s something that I love to do, especially with the beautiful clear waters that we have here in Northern Michigan,” Wolfe said. “And life in the kitchen is not complete without coffee. I’m not aware of any chef or cook that does not consume massive amounts of coffee.”
Wolfe left the kitchen behind to pursue his other passion of fishing. He began leading chartered fishing expeditions in Traverse City. “Deep Blue Coffee started as an extension of customer service for one of my fishing guide businesses,” Wolfe explained. “Probably two thirds of my customers are from out of town. So the emphasis behind it was to serve a great cup of coffee to out of town guests.” Each guest on Wolfe’s fishing boats is greeted with a cup of hot, Deep Blue coffee. Wolfe even asks guests their cream, sugar and coffee blend preferences before they even step on the dock.
