Traverse City 2013 National Cherry Festival: Many of you have memories of participating in the various Cherry Festival activities in your own youth, pie-eating contests, pet fashion shows, fireworks… now it’s your turn to lead the memory-making! The Cherry Festival abounds with events and opportunities that your kids will always remember. If you don’t want to miss anything in this week of commotion, check out comprehensive list of day-by-day activities to plan your ultimate Cherry Fest Schedule!

All Week

From Saturday, June 29, to Saturday, July 6, come to the Corner of Grandview Parkway and Union Street to let the kids ride all the classic carnival rides and maybe even get yourself some cotton candy. You know you want to!

June 29

9:00am: Cherry Pancake Breakfast

Kick off cherry festival with a kid-approved breakfast of Cherry pancakes! Pancakes will be served until 11:00 am at the Festival Open Space.

10:00am: Kids Festival Matinee

Take the kids to the coolest theatre in town, for free! The State Theatre will be showing Megamind, and seating is limited.

10:00am: Kids Big Wheel Race

Start your engine noises, kids, it’s time to race those Big Wheels! For ages 3-6 in the Grand Traverse Mall Parking Lot. 

2:00pm: Festival Air Show

Come down to the open space to thrill your children with the air stunts performed by Team AeroDynamix, Matt Younkin, Aeroshell, and Kevin Copeland. 

2:00pm: Kids Pie Eating Contest

Watch your kids eat up at this classic Cherry Fest competition! Age classifications from pre-school to 12 years. The event will be held in the Grand Traverse Mall Food Court and is free! 

10:30pm: Night Air Show

If you’re up for a later night, visit the Festival Open Space in the cool night air and let the kids see the unique Night Air Show with planes outfitted in LED lights! Team AeroDynamix, Matt Younkin, and Aeroshell will be performing their death-defying maneuvers.
