We know it’s the big picnic, the anticipated long weekend and the glimpse of hot months ahead—but above all it’s the day to remember the selfless heroes making it all possible. This Northern Michigan Memorial Day Weekend, add one of these services or parades to your weekend activities.

Boyne City

Memorial Day services on Monday, May 27, 2013:

  • 8am, Memorial Park, Boyne Falls
  • 8:25am, Memorial Park, Walloon Lake
  • 8:50am, Evangeline Cemetery, Evangeline Township
  • 9:15am, Dyer Cemetery
  • 9:40am, Lost as sea remembrance, Veterans Park, Boyne City
  • 10:10am, Advance Cemetery, Eveline Township
  • 10:35am, Wilson Cemetery, Wilson Township
  • 10:45am, Maple Lawn Cemetery, Boyne City

The Memorial Day parade begins at 11:30am on Lake Street and continues to the waterfront and ends at Veterans Memorial Park. A 12pm service will include music, bell ringing, gun salutes, and addresses. 231-459-4220. Get more information at


Memorial Day Parade & Veterans Tribute on Monday, May 27, 2013:

  • 9am Parade staging at The Cadillac American Legion Post 94
  • 9:30am The Cadillac Honor Guard will hold a speical tribute to all lost US Navy and US Coast Guard sailors with the laying of the wreath on the city dock
  • 10am Parade Begins
  • 11am Special service honoring all Veterans at the Cadillac Veterans Memorial Stadium

Mackinac Island

Memorial Day Observance, Monday, May 27, 2013:

8:30am A brief and informal Memorial Day observance to pay tribute to the soldiers who served at Fort Mackinac. Soldiers will assemble at 8:30 a.m. at Fort Mackinac, march to the Fort Mackinac Post Cemetery, perform a short ceremony and salute, and return to the fort. No admission is charged for ths event. Tight Lines for Troops charity fishing tournament for Michigan’s disabled veterans

Friday, May 17:

  • 6pm Mandatory dinner meeting for all captains and all Tight Lines participants of Boat and Shore Division, 6pm, Seng’s Marina, 47 Lake St., Manistee

Saturday, May 18:

  • Tight Lines for Troops tournament begins
  • 5:30am Seng’s Marina participants ready to board boats
  • 6:30am Shore and River fishermen in position at 6:30am
  • 6:30am Shotgun start at Manistee Harbor pier heads
  • 12pm Volunteers line the Manistee Riverwalk with American Flags to welcome returning veteran fishermen
  • 12:30pm Boats gather outside the pier heads and Shore and River fishermen pull lines
  • 1:30pm Weigh-in at Seng’s Marina
  • 2:30pm Banquet Dinner and 3 pm Awards Ceremony
  • 3:30pm Closing ceremony at Seng’s Marina
  • 5-6pm Raffle prize drawing at Little River Casino Resort

Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27, 2013:

  • 9:30 am Lineup at First Street across from the Baptist Church
  • 10am Parade procession begins with short services throughout, the first at Municipal Marina, second at the Village Green and third at Pentwater Cemetery (locaed 1/2 mile north of downtown)

Traverse City

Memorial Day Service on Friday, May 24, 2013:

  • 12pm Veterans’ Memorial Service at Linwood Cemetery, 8870 North Long Lake Rd., Traverse City, MI 49685
  • Program includes: Traverse City West High School Drumline, Veteran Presentation, Flag Raising & Salute, Invocation & Song, and guest speaker United States Coast Guard Air Station Commander Joseph R. Buzzella, Jr.

Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 27, 2013:

  • 10am Service begins at Veterans Memorial site on 11th Street at the grounds of the Grand Traverse Commons.
  • Bleacher seating available. The United States Coast Guard and Michigan National Guard will be participating. Command Sergeant Major Martin Wilcox United States Army Retired will be the keynote speaker. Students from Kingsley Schools will be performing and the service will be broadcast live on Newstalk 580 WTCM.
