Traverse City Microbreweries: After years of planning and a long trail of paperwork, the much anticipated Brewery Terra Firma officially broke ground on October 1st, 2012. The 10-acre site lies on the historic Dracka Farm located at 2959 Hartman Road in Traverse City. Construction crews have been working diligently over the hard winter on the new brew house and tap room.
Now in the final stages of construction, the work on the brewery’s exterior is wrapping up with grading and landscaping to follow. On the interior, brew house mechanicals are well underway in preparation of brewery equipment installation, while the tap room is ready for paint and fixtures.
Brewery Terra Firma could be starting production as soon as mid May with a grand opening to follow shortly thereafter.
In the final preparations for opening, Brewery Terra Firma is offering some very unique beer experiences and perks. For a limited time while supplies last, beer lovers can sponsor various pieces of the brewery, the beer, and etch themselves into Brewery Terra Firma’s history. Individuals and organizations will be able to purchase stickers, shirts, pint glasses and growlers; as well as the unique opportunity to have their name engraved on a plank display, a bar stool, a barn door or in the grand entrance of the brewery. There is also an opportunity for a pre-opening tasting tour with beer and food samples before the brewery opens to the public. Beer aficionados can also name a Brewery Terra Firma beer or purchase the opportunity to have Brew Master John Niedermaier profile their personality in a beer that will be included in the rotation at Brewery Terra Firma indefinitely.
Brewery Terra Firma sits on ten acres of farmland that will generate ingredients used by the brewery to make its beers. Hops, herbs, fruits, vegetables and even honey will be produced, using sustainable production methods, environmentally conscious waste management and innovative water and heat reclamation systems. Brewery Terra Firma will be a contributor to the local economy of Traverse City and is already becoming a model for the next level of ultra-efficient microbreweries. Brewery Terra Firma is the vision of brew master, John Niedermaier.
