Northern Michigan Living: A Place For Creativity—Fife Lake Maker Space

Northern Michigan Living: Have you ever had a desire to improve your skills in a certain area? Perhaps you want to be more proficient on the computer, or in playing a musical instrument. Perhaps you want to learn more about a subject that is of interest to you, or maybe increasing your knowledge would make a positive difference in your life. Have you ever wanted to be a part of a group that has the same interests you have?

Do you have a skill or knowledge in a certain area that you have not had the opportunity to share what you know with others who are interested? Perhaps you did not have a place to publicly display or share your talent.

Have you been concerned with the need of your community to develop and grow, offering more opportunities for individuals to supplement or earn their living? Even if you are not interested in improving your own skills or sharing what you have, do you desire to see people of your community expressing their creativity along with many others? If you are excited about the possibilities of a Maker Space in Fife Lake, we encourage you to explore the ways in which we can make this dream a reality.

Maker Space is a concept of shared community teaching, learning and sharing that has found success in many places in our state, nation and in other parts of the world. We have many models available to guide us as we plan for our own Northern Michigan model.

Currently, the plan is to create this much-needed Maker Space in the old Kimball’s Market near the corner of State Street and Merritt Street. From planning to the physical aspects, volunteers are much needed!

The Fife Lake Maker Space Board is presently meeting each Tuesday evening in the Fellowship Hall of the Fife Lake United Methodist Church at 6:30 PM. Come, meet with the team and share your dreams and/or concerns!
