Traverse City Events: Turkey’s Changing Social and Political Landscape

Traverse City Events: Turkey's changing social and political landscape is the topic of the second Michigan Global Awareness Consortium lecture, set for 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Oleson Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Presenters will include Professor Kerri Finlayson, who teaches anthropology and sociology at North Central Michigan College, and Professor Ken Winter, who teaches political science and journalism at NCMC and Ferris State University. Winter is also a former editor and publisher of the Petoskey New Review and a member of the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame.

Both Finlayson and Winter recently returned from Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey. Their trip, sponsored by Ohio State University and the Niagara Foundation, allowed them to participate in conversations about revolutionary changes in the Turkish society. They will discuss the developing social, economic, religious and political dynamics in Turkey.

The Michigan Global Awareness Consortium consists of Bay College, Mid Michigan Community College, North Central Michigan College and Northwestern Michigan College. The MGAC is dedicated to bringing global issues, international opportunities and information to their campuses.
