Traverse City Events: In its 11th year, the Great Lakes Bioneers Conference will showcase a weekend of inspiring local and national speakers, skill building workshops, live music and internationally recognized experts on issues regarding people and planet on October 19-21, 2012 at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City.
Since its founding in 2001, the conference has been attended by thousands of children, youth and adults from throughout Northern Michigan. Participants generally attend to create positive social and environmental change in a fun, inspiring and community-oriented gathering.
The conference is jointly organized by SEEDS and the Neahtawanta Research and Education Center.
The Great Lakes Bioneers Conference is one of the eighteen local events held across the country as part of the larger National Bioneers conference held in San Rafael, California. This is the 23rd year for the National Bioneers conference. At points throughout the weekend event, attendees will gather in the Milliken Auditorium to view simulcasts beamed live from California.
2012 marks the first year the Great Lakes Bioneers Conference will use its annual event to kick off a series of year-round forums, workshops and events designed to continuously evolve new solutions for environmental and social resilience. This has inspired the conference title "Tag, You're It" because conference attendees and participants will have an opportunity to develop and implement solutions.
Local keynote speakers include Timothy Young, Founder, Food For Thought Inc.., an organic and wild-harvested gourmet specialty foods company with a mission and Jackie Victor, Co-Founder, Avalon International Breads, a socially responsible bakery in Detroit.
