Northern Michigan Events: On Friday, July 20, 2012, the Cherry Capitol Men's Chorus will preform at the Michigan Legacy Art Park amphitheater, located on the grounds of Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa at 7 p.m. Sponsored by Grow Benzie, the performance is fourth in the Summer Sounds Concert Series, which takes place every Friday in July. All proceeds will benefit the Michigan Legacy Art Park, and tickets are $10 per person, $8 per Art Park member and free to children under 18 years old.
The Cherry Capitol Men's Chorus has been delighting Northern Michigan with their barbershop-style performances since the 1960's, when twelve area men met at Traverse City landmark, the Park Place Hotel. Drawn together by a love of music and a shared drive for excellence, the chapter has grown, expanding to over 75 men ranging in age from 14 to 84.
Consistently placing among the top four choruses at Barbershop Society contests, the Cherry Capitol Men's Chorus has made it their mission to "maximize their joy as Barbershoppers by musically being all they can be, while enriching their communities with great harmony and good works". They annually raise and donate over $7000 to hearing and speech related charities in the Northern Michigan community, as well as musical programs in local schools.
Concert tickets can be purchased in advance at michlegacyartpark.org/events/ or at the Art Park on the night of the concert. Rides to the amphitheatre will begin at 6:15 p.m. for those unable to walk the trail. New this year: Art activities, led by Live for Art Gallery of Beulah, Mich., will be provided for kids during the concert.
Guests are welcome to bring picnics, lawn chairs or blankets. Art Park folding chairs will be available to purchase or rent at the concert. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase, or pre-order a gourmet picnic for two from Crystal Mountain by calling 231.378.2000 ext. 7000. If raining, the concert will be held indoors at Crystal Mountain.
