Traverse City Events: In its second season partnering with Michigan State University’s Wharton Center for the Performing Arts, downtown Traverse City's historic City Opera House will again offer an eclectic mix of world-class entertainment. “You have everything from the best jazz to big band to amazing dance,” says Bob Wilcox, public relations manager at Wharton. Even better: there’s a little something for all ages. A few must-attend events: Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (Sept. 23), The Improvised Shakespeare Company (Oct. 20), kid-friendly Skippyjon Jones (Nov. 26) and, back by popular demand, Franc D’Ambrosio: Christmas in NY (Dec. 3). The Opera House’s Victorian charm and intimate setting provides a perfect backdrop to shows, many of which cost under $30. Subscribers save even more: select three to four performances for a 10 percent break, choose five or more for a 20 percent savings. 231.941.8082; schedule at cityoperahouse.org.
