Savor these golden August summer days with the best festival Northern Michigan has to offer. Harbor Days, of Elk Rapids, won first place as 'Best Small Town Festival' by Traverse Magazine's Red Hot Best in June.
From August 3-6, locals and visitors alike can eat, drink, and be merry Up North. On Wednesday, August 3, festivities begin at 4 p.m. at the amusement park. At 6 p.m., wander down to River Street for an evening of entertainment, live music, and of course, the opening ceremonies that begin at 7 p.m.
Thursday is 'Community Day' and has events stacked throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Got energy? Participate in the Pillo Polo tournament, Zumba, or the Soccer Tournament. Other events on Thursday include a Mini Pow Wow, and the Community Dinner that offers pulled pork, beef baskets, chicken, coleslaw, french bread, organic pies, and ice-cream.
'Kids Day' is Friday, with many more fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. Three by three basketball tournaments, the Elk Rapids Farmer's Market, waterfall, penny scramble, root beer floats, a cherry bake off, and the boat lighting display are just a few fun things to do.
'Family Day' is Saturday's feature, and also the last day of the festival. A few fun things to do Saturday include the Harborun 5K and Fun Run, Family Sandcastle Building, the Grand Parade, Paddlebuoy Races, Horseshoe Tournament, Short's Brewery Fest, music in the park, and fireworks!
Soaking up these last summer moments before they're over is a must, so don't delay. Head to Harbor Fest and embrace this beautiful place we call home. The people, small town charm, and gorgeous lakes can't be beat.
