Traverse City Attractions: Kids can have fun and take advantage of all the resources of Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City this summer. Summer college for kids offers children ages 4 to 17 the opportunity to choose from 170 enrichment adventures in science, robotics, outdoors, computer, language, art, cooking and more over eight weeks. The week long classes are half day. Prices vary and financial aid is available.
“The kids look forward to getting their College for Kids brochure every year and have trouble deciding which ones to pick—so many great options,” said a parent whose children have been a part of the Traverse City program for the last four years. “They love to go to college.” The nearly 70 instructors include Northwestern Michigan College staff, Northern Michigan teachers, and Northern Michigan community experts in specific fields of interest.
Each summer features an array of new classes at this Traverse City attraction, as well as the return of popular options. Sample titles for young children include Action Contraptions, Art in the Great Outdoors, Kids in the Kitchen, and Shelter Building. Elementary kids will enjoy Sports Camp, Paint Studio, Horseback Riding, and Pop Can Science. There are 56 choices for grades 7 and up including CSI-Crime Detectives, Movie Production, Fiction Writing, and Perspective Drawing for Middle Schoolers. For older teens, check out Wire Sculpture, Survivor Backcountry Skills, Car Care, and Recording Studio Techniques.
