Northern Michigan Christmas Tree Guide

The Rebel

Austrian Pine

If you’re the one in the crowd who likes ’em wild, This is the tree for you. Expect every-which-way, shaggy boughs and a funky unkempt appearance. A tree to shake it up when things get too traditional.

The Poser

Douglas Fir

This lush green tree holds its needles well and has a nice scent. Know, however, that the branches are only moderately strong and aren’t well spaced for decorations. (Confidential: Douglas Fir isn’t a real fir—its genus is Pseudotsuga, while the genus of actual firs is Abies. The difference is in the cones.) Nevertheless, Doug still cuts a classic Christmas tree figure.
